Avoid summer pollution by installing catalytic converter.

Disgusted by black, noxious fumes coming out of your vehicle? That smoke is fouling the air you breathe, and by the way, poisoning not only yourself but also your loved ones. And it could also mean frequent emissions tests, as mandated by various state laws and the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

You can solve that problem by installing catalytic converters into your vehicle. A catalytic converter (also known as catcon or cat) is a device that turns harmful exhaust gases like nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and unburned fuel into basic molecules like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water. "Cats" reduce the
toxicity of these emissions from your internal combustion engine. This way, these gases can no longer cause damage in the environment, thus making you safer and healthier.

Motor engines try to regulate the air:fuel ratio to 1:14.7. Meaning, for every pound of fuel to be burned, the engine needs 14.7 pounds of air to do the job. But in reality, when driving the air-fuel ratio in your engine varies from lean (an air-to-fuel ratio higher than 14.7), and other times the mixture can be rich (an air-to-fuel ratio lower than 14.7).

Because of these non-ideal conditions, the burnt fuel can actually produce other kinds of emissions like:

* Carbon monoxide - a poisonous gas that is colorless and odorless
* Hydrocarbons or volatile organic compounds - produced mostly from unburned
fuel that evaporates Sunlight breaks these down to form oxidants, which react with oxides of nitrogen
to cause ground level ozone (O3), a major component of smog.
* Nitrogen oxides - contributes to smog and acid rain, and also causes irritation
to human mucus membranes.

The catalytic converter works by:

1.Reduction of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and oxygen.
2.Oxidation of (non greenhouse gas, but toxic) carbon monoxide to less harmful (greenhouse gas) carbon dioxide.
3.Oxidation of unburnt carcinogenic hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water.

Several components make up the standard catalytic converter. These are:

1.The core or substrate. The core is made up of a ceramic honeycomb, which provides support to the catalyst.
2.The washcoat. This is a mixture of silicon and aluminum. This forms with the core, a rough, irregular surface which has a large surface area. The large surface area gives more places for the catalyst to bind. The catalyst is first suspended to the washcoat before being applied to the core.
3.The catalyst. Tis is usually a precious metal, either platinum, palladium or rhodium. Platinum is most widely used but is the most expensive. Either palladium or rhodium is substituted for it. Platinum and rhodium are used as reduction catalysts, while palladium and platinum are oxidation catalysts.

One downside of having catalytic converters is that it becomes ineffective in the presence of lead, which
leads to catalyst poisoning. Catalyst poisoning occurs when a substance in the engine exhaust coats the surface of the catalyst, preventing further exhaust access to the catalytic materials. To avoid it, vehicles with catalytic converters are run using unleaded fuel. Catalytic converters help protect lessen the emissions brought about by the burning of fossil fuels. Having one installed is doing your share in protecting our environment. In the end, you are also protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Preparing your car for summer.

Summer is again a short step away. But before you take your gear out of the closet and set off for the charms as well as excitement of that well-deserved sea shore trip, clear a couple of things, first. Make sure the exhaust system of your ride is well and truly up for the sweaty clutch of the days that are certain to plague you for quite a bit of a spell. If you have an imperfect acquaintance with the exhaust system and often shake your head, wondering what it does in there, now's as good a time as any to play catch-up. The exhaust system is the part of your engine that sees to two chief functions: one, it gets rid of the lethal gases emitted by the engine and two, it reduces the degree of noise that inevitably results when the gases make their way out of the car's system.

Do you know what happens when gas seepage into the passenger compartment occurs? Nausea, headaches as well as heightened irritability are common. On the other hand, inhaling a goodly amount of dosage can also cause an alarming loss of consciousness and in extreme cases, even death. This bit right here is quite important to remember. After all, we all have a penchant for staying inside the car when the heat gets too high. Cooking awhile under the sun and getting a tan is fine but turning into a reddened lobster doesn't go quite well with one's notion of making merry in the summer. Neither is suffering from sunburns or skin cancer.

With that said, it is imperative that we make sure the passenger compartment won't have any gas seepage mishaps or we may find ourselves in an uncomfortable fix. And driving while the windows are down, which is one way to prevent any gas seepage from turning into a potential danger is not something most of us
wish to contemplate, much less endure when the temperature is a near-hundred degree. Sweating your way through a workout is productive. Sweating while sitting inside your car is not, especially when you're on your way to work or out for a family picnic with three squabbling kids in the backseat.

One surefire way to know if your exhaust system is already in need of immediate part replacements is excessive noise when gases escape from your muffler. The noise may indicate worn patches in the tubes somewhere within. These are torn areas through which the gases escape. If you happen to hear this with a
bit of regularity, better start a more thorough inspection of your exhaust system as soon as possible.

You may have a defective catalytic converter or a series of faulty exhaust pipes in your ride. If your system
still stays buggy after you've satisfactorily seen to these concerns, then maybe you ought to get new Oxgen sensor mufflers to go with the rest. Remember, when checking the system, do a careful job of it. Inspect the entire exhaust assembly. See the exhaust manifolds for any damages, the pipes, the resonator, tailpipe and miscellaneous clamps as well as brackets. If any of these parts have sustained damages of the critical sort, don't just diddle around in your haunches. Set out to acquire the proper replacements immediately. You don't know when you'll require the full talents of your exhaust system and exhaust system components, especially during the warm days of summer. You don't want to be driving with your windows down, squinting in the
heat and glare simply because your exhaust system is having trouble keeping up.

Not to mention the fact that you are also adding to the pollutants in the atmosphere by cruising around with leaky exhaust pipes or tubes. Is there a reason this matters? Yes, especially in connection to appreciating the oh-joys of summer. See, pollutants that clog up the air rise to the atmosphere where they proceed to destroy the ozone layer. The thinning out of the ozone and emergence of holes in it, as we know and are all aware of, both contribute to the increasing count of skin cancer and other epidermal woes in the populace due to the preponderance of harmful UV rays. If this continues, more and more people will be less than likely to grow thrilled with the prospect of beach outings and then where would that leave us? Our summers will never be the same again.

You see then. No matter how convoluted, long-winded or round-about it is, how you see to your exhaust system plays a significant part in the scheme of things in this world. Aint that grand? So do your part but well.

Confidential New Car Pricing Information

Confidential New Car Pricing Information

Warning! . . . Do not buy a new vehicle without taking 5 minutes to read this report!

Buying a new car is a big decision, but it doesn’t have to be a difficult one. The average person will buy 10-12 cars in their lifetime. Preparing yourself and doing your homework is the key to being able to make the important decisions with total confidence.

Once you’ve decided on the car you will buy or lease, you will need to be able to determine what is a good price. This is where it can get very tricky. Before you sign on the bottom line you need to know how to recognize a good
deal when you see one.

Anatomy of a new car price:

M.S.R.P. – The Manufacturer’s suggested retail price, commonly known as the List price or window sticker is the retail price set by the manufacturer. This is typically the price that the new car dealer would like you to pay. Although the overwhelming majority of new cars are sold at less than the M.S.R.P., some dealers will hold out for this price on a very hot-selling vehicle that is high in demand and limited in supply.

Dealer invoice price – Every manufacturer sends an invoice to the dealer for their vehicles as soon as they are delivered to the dealer. The dealer will typically pay for the vehicle via a prearranged line of credit. Commonly, the
dealer will start paying interest charges from the first day onwards.

Holdback – Most manufacturers help subsidize the interest charges and marketing/advertising that a dealer incurs by paying the dealer a holdback amount, after the vehicle has been sold. This amount typically ranges from 2.0% to 2.5% of the invoice amount. Dealers will rarely consider this when negotiating a new car deal

Maximum dealer margin/profit – The difference between the M.S.R.P. and the dealer invoice price is the maximum dealer margin/profit that the dealer has to work with when negotiating a deal.

Dealer and buyer goals - The dealer’s goal is to negotiate a deal as close to M.S.R.P. as possible and the buyer’s (your) goal is to negotiate a deal as close as possible to the dealer invoice price.

Actual dealer margin/profit – The amount over the dealer invoice price that is finally negotiated between the dealer and the buyer (you), is the dealer’s actual dealer profit/margin, before sales and overhead expenses.

Dealer overhead and bottom line profit - From the actual dealer profit/margin amount the dealer has to cover the sales rep and sales manager’s salaries, commissions and bonuses. The remainder goes to the dealership to cover all other expenses, with the final balance representing the actual net profit to the dealership.

Factory-to-consumer incentives – In an effort to stimulate sales, many manufacturers will offer incentives to the consumer (you). These incentives are commonly advertised in the media and can consist of low rate financing/leasing rates, such as 0%, cash rebates, such as $2,000, or a combination of both. If a manufacturer is offering you 0% or $2,000 cash, the emphasis is on OR; which means that you cannot get 0% financing and $2,000. You have to decide between the two. In some cases, you can combine the 0% and $2,000, but not very
often.

Factory-to-dealer incentives – Commonly referred to as hidden or secret rebates. Internally these non-advertised dealer incentives can be known as marketing credits, trading dollars, factory cash, dealer cash, dealer bonuses, invoice credits, etc. Many manufacturers will use them as additional stimulus for the dealer to sell more vehicles. In some cases, the manufacturer may not want to advertise that they are offering incentives to avoid tarnishing their image, where others will use these incentives to encourage dealers to carry more inventory and thus potentially sell more vehicles. Most dealers will factor in these factory-to-dealer incentives when negotiating a deal. Effectively this may allow the buyer (you) to buy/lease a new vehicle for less than the dealer invoice price.

As you can see, new car pricing can be very complex. Knowing what you now know, would you ever simply walk into a dealership and negotiate a deal on your own, without having all the information above? I would bet that your answer would be a resounding NO!

After searching the web, I discovered a number of sites that promised to offer this information, but after digging, I would suggest that only one is credible enough for me.

Your best choice would be CarCostCanada at http://www.carcostcanada.com/.

According to their website, they also supply this information to insurance companies which are notorious for being very particular about their service suppliers. CarCost has also been around since 1999 and judging by their
feedback page, appear to have a very strong following. When you consider the size of your investment in a new car, to spend less than $40, to ensure that you get the best deal, is a small price to pay.

How to Find Out if Your Vehicle Has Factory Incentives

What Is a Factory-To-Dealer Incentive?

A factory incentive is a rebate the factory offers to the dealer on certain models due to a number of reasons. These incentives are not advertised to the general public and usually won’t be passed on to the customer unless they know about it. Manufactures will offer these incentives to boost sales on models that aren’t selling well, when a set sales target has been reached or to encourage dealers in selected regions to move more cars. These rebates can be anywhere from $500 to $5000 which thereby makes the cost of the vehicle much cheaper for the dealer.

How Factory Incentives Can Help You

If you know about the current incentives available on the vehicle you are purchasing you can use that information as a bartering tool to obtain a better price. For example, if you are buying a $25,000 car and there is a $5000 factory-to-dealer incentive currently in effect you could effectively buy that car for $20,000 if the dealer passes that rebate on to you. Technically the dealer isn’t losing any of his/her money by
doing this because it’s coming directly from the factory. On the other hand if the customer didn’t know about the incentive the dealer would be able to pocket the $5000 which is why they are quite reluctant to tell customers about these offers.

How to Find Out if Your Vehicle Has Factory Incentives

Currently there are only a few places to find out about factory-to-dealer incentives. Depending on whether you live in Canada or The United States there are a few companies that provide this hidden information at a nominal fee. In Canada there is http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-3615279-10484075?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.carcostcanada.com%2F a company that provides factory incentive information along with their new car invoice pricing reports. In the US there is FightingChance.com, a site that emphasis’s on factory-to-dealer incentives. Last but not least is Consumer Reports, a company known for delivering relevant information to consumers of every industry. Their website, ConsumerReports.org, offers reports to both US and Canadian customers.

The information you need to get the best possible price on your new car is out there, the choice of using it is up to the customer. But when educated buyers are saving four, five or six thousand dollars off their purchase, why wouldn’t you want to be one of them?

Things you should know when shopping for auto parts online

The Internet is a great way to shop. From the comfort of your chair, you can go from one online shop to the next, comparing product prices and features so you always get the best deals. You can also read product reviews of shoppers who have previously bought an item and learn from their experiences. You save yourself the hassle of actually going out to these stores, lining up to pay, and carrying back the goods to your house. With just a few clicks of the mouse you can shop and buy, and wait for your purchase to arrive at your doorstep within 5 days or less. This is shopping convenience at its best and what's more, online shops are open 24 hours a day! So the next time you need a replacement for your car, say a
new headlight
or a better exhaust muffler, buy online. You would be surprised to know that
there are hundreds of websites offering a wide range of auto parts and accessories. Many of these online shops carry OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) replacements and aftermarket performance parts for your vehicle. Their massive online catalogues can be sorted according to auto part, type of car, and year of make so you can zero in to what you need
in no time. Unlike your brick and mortar auto parts retailer, online auto parts merchants will inform you through email or by phone when an accessory that is not in stock becomes available.
There is no question about the convenience offered by online auto parts shopping to busy car owners but you may want to take certain precautions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable shopping experience.
1. Know your online retailer. You want only the best replacements for your car so make sure you are shopping in reputable online stores. Check out their inventory of car accessories. Does the store
offer a wide selection for a particular replacement? Does it provide relevant information about the product features and pricing? Click on the site's About link and see if the store has clearly disclosed who they are and how to reach them. A good way to determine an online store's reputation is through the quality of its customer service.

2. Protect your privacy. Shop only at secure websites. When you're at the checkout page, the address on your browser should begin with 'https'
instead of just 'http'. 'https' means the the online transaction is being secured from malicious interception. It is very important to read the store's Privacy Policy so you know exactly what the store will do with the personal and financial
information you are giving to them. Look for eTrust, VeriSign, HackerSafe, BBBOnline
Reliability Program, and other privacy enforcement seals to guarantee your security
and privacy.

3. Keep a record of your
transactions
. Take
note of the shipping and handling fees and total charges before you click on
that Buy button. The total price you pay for a new car part is often higher
than the published one. Make sure to printout receipts, confirmation emails,
and other information related to your order so you have something to back you
up in case you have questions or problems with the shipment.

4. Read the fine print. There are cases when what is delivered to you is different from what you ordered and you have to return it. While rare, errors such as this do happen so read
the online merchant's cancellation, return, and complaint-handling policies. Does the store offer warranties for its auto parts and accessories, and who honors that warranty? Do you get a refund to your credit card or get a store credit? If these are not posted, it is wise to call or send an email to customer service first before going ahead with your purchase.
So there you have it. These tips seem too much a bother at first but as you get to know the best auto parts retailers online and become comfortable with their system, you eventually save yourself some headaches and disappointments. Happy online shopping!

You don't always remember, but now your PASSPORT 9500i will. The PASSPORT 9500i's "Mark Location" feature allows you to quickly store a specific location in memory. Simply tap the "Mark" button a couple of times and the 9500i will store this location in memory. The next time you approach this area, the PASSPORT 9500i will provide an alert well in advanced to remind you of the potential danger. This specific location reminder could keep you from being ambushed by instant-on radar or laser the next time you approach.

AutoVolume automatically adjusts the alert volume based on ambient noise.

The PASSPORT 9500i will adjust the alert volume level based on the ambient noise in the vehicle. Using a miniature microphone, the 9500i monitors ambient noise and will increase the volume level automatically to ensure you take notice even with loud music, passenger conversations or excessive wind noise. Now each alert will be heard so you can react if needed.

Crystal-Clear Voice Alerts the PASSPORT 9500i provides users with a real voice alert option.

The PASSPORT 9500i uses a Geiger-counter-like sound to indicate the signal strength and unique audible tones to identify each alert by band. Or, choose the PASSPORT 9500i's new Voice Alert option for crystal clear communication of alerts and user controls.
